Children, not brides and grooms.

 Adolescent girls and children marry and form informal unions - by choice or by force - for a variety of complicated, interconnected reasons. To bring an end to child marriage, we must first understand the systems, norms and behaviours that drive child marriage, along with what works in different contexts to do so. Listening to those affected by child marriage and working across sectors and with diverse stakeholders at all levels will bring faster and more lasting change. In order to end child marriage, girls must be at the centre of solutions. Positive social norms need to be reformed within the families and the communities that limit girls' options.

When we work together to understand how to stop child marriage, we can extend gender equality in the home and in public spaces, allowing girls to achieve their full potential. International bodies, governments, as well as political and religious leaders must commit to putting human rights standards into action all over the world in order to make changes at scale. The goal is to end child marriage and empower girls through targeted investments and programming. By establishing gender-responsive social protection systems and integrating strong gender-responsive education systems, we can ensure that girls and women can realize their full potential.

Save the Children, in its many efforts, has worked to spread awareness on how to stop child marriage. Here are a few ways which is guaranteed to make a massive difference, now and in the years to come.

1) Encourage the development of girls' skills and networks of support;

2) Provide economic assistance and incentives to girls and their families;

3) Educate and rally parents and members of the community;

4) Ensure girls have access to a high-quality education,

5) Support laws and policies that are supportive. Policymakers need to pay attention to these strategies while testing innovative approaches and evaluating techniques as they develop the next generation of development programs aimed at ending child marriage.

While ending child marriage is no small task, many small actions can make a difference. Here are three actions we can all take instead of standing by and accepting practices that harm children and communities:

1. You should inform the relevant authorities in your area if you see a child marriage taking place

2. Spread the word about the harmful impacts of child marriage to your family, friends, and community

3. Do not participate in any event that promotes child marriage
